MORDECAI

MORDECAI: First off, let me say, I am a huge fan of Johnny Depp and went into this film expecting a clone of the Inspector Clouseau series that starred the brilliant Peter Sellers. Well, this ain't it. Granted, there are some quite funny bits here and there but the humor is as dry as the desert sands. Very stiff—upper lip... British, you know. The supporting cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor and a wonderful Paul Bettany give their all but it still falls short of what it could have been. So, I guess the blame lies with the script. Too many villians, not enough laughs. but Depp adds another iconic role to his repertoire, so it was a treat, in that department. I'm still waiting for him to play Carol Channing (Yes, he once said he wanted to.) But as far as Mordecai is concemed, I'd say pass on it.
