FOXCATCHER

FOXCATCHER: Based on a true story, this film is a bit tedious in its first half. But it does have a performance by Steve Carell like no other he has ever given. Carell plays John du Pont who invited wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) to live on his estate with the task in mind of forming a wrestling team for the 1988 Olympics. Thinking this will be a way to step out of the shadow of his older wrestler brother, Dave (Mark Ruffalo), he takes the oppurtunity. But soon du Pont has led him off the straight and narrow and in the end we have tragic results. Making an apperance as the du Pont matriarch is Vanessa Redgrave and although she has little to do, she holds her screen time admirably. While not for everyone, (remember I said tedious) it is nonethelss worth the time invested for the performances.
